(A) Notes on the All-Movie Guide Database
==========================================
The All-Movie Guide company provides Corel with the movie database that
is used in this product. If you have any questions about this company,
click the About icon in the Corel All-Movie Guide 2 and click the AMG
button. If you would like more information, or have any questions or
concerns about the content of the database, please contact
All-Movie Guide at:
Telephone: (616) 796-3437
Fax: (616) 796-3060
Compuserve: 72662,144
(B) Improving performance of Corel All-Movie Guide 2
====================================================
1. CD-ROM Caching (Windows 3.1x)
--------------------------------
If you are using Windows 3.1x and you wish to increase the
performance of Corel All-Movie Guide 2, you should use
SMARTDRV.EXE's CD-ROM caching. This option is available to
users of DOS 6.2.
To enable CD-ROM caching:
In your "AUTOEXEC.BAT" file, make sure that a CD-ROM
extensions program, such as MSCDEX, is loaded before
SMARTDRV. For example:
.
c:\BIN\MSCDEX.EXE /D:MSCD001 /M:10
.
c:\WINDOWS\SMARTDRV.EXE /X 2048
.
2. Video performance
--------------------
If you notice that Corel All-Movie Guide 2 is running slowly,
setting your video driver to 256 color mode may improve performance.
For more information about setting color mode, see the documentation
provided by your video card manufacturer.
(C) Troubleshooting
===================
1. Sound
--------
If you're experiencing any sound problems with Corel All-Movie Guide 2,
contact the manufacturer of your sound card to make sure you have the
latest drivers for your sound card. If you still have difficulties after
installing the latest drivers, and your sound card is working with other
Windows 95 applications, please contact Corel Multimedia Technical Support.
2. Video
--------
If the graphic quality of the Corel All-Movie Guide 2 is poor, your system
may be running in a low resolution or low color video mode. Corel
All-Movie Guide 2 looks its best when it's operating on a system that
supports more than 256 colors and a resolution greater than 640x480.
For more information about setting the color mode or resolution of your
video card, see the documentation provided by your video card manufacturer.
If you're experiencing any problems with graphics displaying or refreshing
incorrectly, please contact the manufacturer of your video card to make
sure you have the latest drivers for your video card. If you still have
difficulties after installing the latest drivers, please contact Corel
Multimedia Technical Support.
3. Problems starting or running Corel All-Movie Guide
-----------------------------------------------------
If you experience difficulties starting or running Corel All-
Movie Guide 2, check that you have more than 35% of your system
resources free. To check your system resources, click About
Program Manager in the Help menu of the Program Manager.
To increase your free system resources:
1. Close other applications that may be running.
2. Turn off wallpaper in Windows.
3. Disable any drivers that you don't need in your CONFIG.SYS
and AUTOEXEC.BAT.
For more information about system resources, see your Windows
documentation.
4. Right mouse button doesn't display information
-------------------------------------------------
You can click the right mouse button on celebrity names and movie
titles to display more information about them. However, many mouse
manufacturers allow you to assign special functions to the right
button of the mouse. If you've assigned a special function to the
right mouse button, Corel All-Movie Guide 2 is unable to use the
right mouse button. You must remove the special function using the
utility provided by the mouse manufacturer. For more information,
see the documentation provided by your mouse manufacturer.
(D) Installing Corel All-Movie Guide 2 over previous version
============================================================
If you wish to maintain any personal profile settings from the
previous version of Corel All-Movie Guide and use the information
with the new program, you should install the new version in the
same directory as the old version. The install program will make
the necessary changes to the old database files and create backup
copies that will remain in the AllMovie directory. Once the install
is complete, all your previously saved data will be usable in the
new version.
Please note that the icons for the previous version of All-Movie Guide
will still be present on your system once you have finished installing
the new version. These icons should be deleted manually from the group
or Programs menu.
(E) Obtaining free updates for the movie database
=================================================
The Corel Web site offers free quarterly updates for the Corel
All-Movie Guide 2 database.
To download an update:
1. You must have a Web browser installed on your computer
and an Internet connection.
2. Close the Corel All-Movie Guide 2 application.
